Paris Olympics: Vietnamese swimmers and badminton players to compete on July 29

Vietnamese swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang and badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh will start competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics on July 29.

Paris (VNA) – Vietnamese swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang and badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh will start competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics on July 29.

Specifically, Hoang will compete in the men’s 800m freestyle qualifying round and Linh will compete with Australian athlete Tiffany Ho in the women’s singles qualifying round.

At the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (Ocean Games 32) last year, Hoang brought home three gold medals and one bronze medal. At the 31st Ocean Games, he won five gold medals and broke two Ocean Games records.

At the 18th Asian Games (ASIAD 18) in 2018, Hoang won a silver medal in the 1,500m freestyle. That same year, when he participated in the Youth Olympics in Argentina, he won a gold medal in the 800m freestyle.

Hoang’s path to Paris has been paved with both victory and suffering. At the 19th Asian Games last year, he won a bronze medal in the men’s 800m freestyle, earning a ticket to the Olympics with a time of 7:51.44.

At the Paris Olympics, Hoang will compete in his two favorite events – the 1,500m freestyle and the 800m freestyle. For his second time participating in the Olympics, the swimmer from Quang Binh plans to surpass his own proficiency to achieve the best results and look for a great opportunity to reach the final.

Meanwhile, Linh – Vietnam’s top female player – is in Gathering K with American No. 11 Beiwen Zhang and Australia No. 80 Tiffany Ho.

The expectation is that Linh, world No. 26, and Zhang will have no trouble against Ho. Linh won 2-0 against Ho at Spain Bosses in the spring.

The immediate match between Linh and Zhang will decide the gathering champion.

Although Linh is 15 points behind Zhang in the world rankings, her first second place at the German Open is on par with her.

In their most recent meeting last year, Linh beat Zhang 2-1 in the last 16 of the Cold Open in Finland.

This is Linh’s second straight Olympics. In Tokyo 2021, her opponent finished in the gathering.
